Animations 1992

With Fisherman Fred having had his last TV outing in 1991, 1992 saw my last "HART BEAT" animations featuring Kate, as introduced in 1990. The three films to feature Kate in 1992 were "Glass", "Stone" and "Backgrounds". Unfortunately the last of these (a still from which is seen top right for the first time in public!) was never transmitted when the programme concerned ended up having to be cut in editing for timing purposes. I guess I was lucky never to have had anything cut in my first four years on the show!

Having produced one "GALLERY" title in 1991, in 1992 I was additionally commissioned to produced three animated "stings" to introduce the part of the show where children sent in their artwork. These were then used at random in eight of the ten programmes that comprised the series (one of which did not feature the Gallery). Of these, the most intensive to produce (and illustrated lower centre above) featured two sets of lines that cross-crossed into an interwoven mesh. The inking and painting of these cells was incredible complex (just try drawing and painting one such patchwork!), and required me to apply cell paint up to a straight edge the equivalent length of the perimeter of two full-size swimming pools (and yes, that's the kind of daft statistic I ending up working out whilst working on that few seconds of screentime!).
